Taught by Geshe Denma Gyaltsen, Resident Lama, Ligmincha Texas
A Stupa, or Chorten in Tibetan, is a mound-shaped religious monument from the Buddhist
tradition. It is said that its shape represents the mind of the Buddha. A stupa includes the five
basic geometric shapes that correspond to the five elements. In the Bön tradition, there are 120
different specific designs that represent different manifestations of the Buddha’s mind. Each part
of the design holds deep meaning.
Geshe Denma will guide us through the drawing of a stupa, and explain the meaning of each part.
This information will allow you to build a Stupa. This is the first time this topic has been taught at
Ligmincha Texas and possibly the first time it has been taught in the United States. Please bring
paper, pencil and a ruler.
